BG dog lovers invited to attend ‘Dog Day Afternoon’ pop up dog park on Sept. 14

The Friends of BG Dog Parks invites the dog-loving community to join in the celebration of the group’s first event at the future location of its permanent dog park.

A large fenced off-leash play space will be available at “Dog Day Afternoon,” on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 1 to 4 p.m., at Ridge Park, located at 225 Ridge St. in Bowling Green. In case of rain, the event will be held on Sept. 21.

Planned activities include dog-themed face painting and crafts, best dressed dog and doggie talent show contests with prizes for first place and runners-up and a talk on dog park etiquette. There will be a table with information from Zoom Room and Planned Pethood.

Water bowls, balls and other dog toys will be provided. There will be some lawn chairs available; dog owners may bring their own chairs as well.

Raffle tickets for a 50/50 drawing will be available and donations to the Friends of BG Dog Parks group will be accepted at the “doggie door.”

Dogs attending the event must be off-leash while in the fenced area, licensed, fully vaccinated, nonaggressive, responsive to commands and supervised at all times by the owner.

Friends of BG Dog Park, a nonprofit organization, signed a lease with the City of Bowling Green for the space at Ridge Park in July. The board of directors is in the process of interviewing design and project management companies and anticipates that construction of the dog park may begin this fall.
