BG FFA members place first in career development event competition

From BOWLING GREEN FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA

On Nov. 6, members of the Bowling Green FFA chapter showcased their skills during two career development events (CDE), the Job Interview CDE and Food Science CDE. Both events challenged students to apply real world knowledge, teamwork, and professionalism, while representing their chapter at a high level. The events took place at Bowling Green High School.

Food Science CDE

The Bowling Green FFA chapter fielded a team for the Food Science CDE, a fast-paced competition designed to test students’ abilities in food safety, sensory analysis, and industry knowledge. Members participated in a series of hands-on activities, including:

  • Aroma identification
  • Detection of food, safety, and health issues
  • Evaluation of product quality
  • Solutions to real-world food industry problems

The team worked together to analyze samples, identify concerns, and demonstrate knowledge of food production and processing. The event challenged students to work critically and apply classroom learning to realistic scenarios found in the agricultural and food science industries. Team members Isabella Belleville, Grace O’Connell, Kiersten Hendricks, and Olivia Rogers placed first in the district and qualify for the state competition on Jan. 24.

Job Interview CDE

Several Bowling Green FFA members participated in the Job Interview CDE, one of the more career-focused contests offered by FFA competitions. Members completed a full application process, which included preparing a professional résumé, filling out a detailed job application, and participating in a mock job interview with judges.

The event gave students an opportunity to practice essential career skills, such as communication, confidence, and professionalism. The advisor noted that this CDE not only prepared members for future jobs, but also builds leadership skills they will use beyond high school.

Members participated in the sub-district contest, where they qualified to participate in the district competition on Nov. 6. In Division 1, Kate Conway placed second. In Division 3, Emma Nester placed seventh. In Division 4, Gavin Roessner placed sixth.
