Bowling Green FFA kept busy as BGHS approached the end of the first half of the school year.
The chapter started November off with the end of fruit sale, where the total gross amount sold was $51,548. This is the only fundraiser the chapter does to fund all of the activities that members participate in throughout the year. Members are involved in all aspects of the fundraiser including pricing, marketing, ordering, assembling fruit baskets, sorting, and delivering to customers.
The members of the Animal and Plant Science Class wrapped up their poultry nutrition project by taking their chickens to a local processing plant to be harvested. The members learned how to cut up a whole chicken into its retail parts. The members use this project to illustrate proper nutrition and feeding practices when caring for livestock.
The Food Science team consisted of Annie Urban, Addie Naus, Aiden Meyer, Grace O’Connell and Clare Tussing. The Food Science contest required members to complete a series of practicums such as food sensory evaluation and food analysis as well as complete a group food product development project. The team placed 5th at the district level.
Addie Naus, Grave Hovest, and Drew Thomas participated in the District Job Interview contest that was also at Evergreen High School. For this contest, members completed a resume, job application, cover letter, a mock job interview, and a follow up letter. Grace placed 7th in Division 1, Addie placed 8th in Division 3 and Drew placed 7th in Division 4.
Twenty five BG FFA members volunteered in various capacities at the BGHS Veterans Day Assembly. Members greeted veterans, helped direct them to the gym, hosted them at a breakfast and helped with parking.
At the end of November, the Bowling Green FFA attended a State FFA Leadership Night for area schools hosted by Evergreen High School. Eleven members joined other members from Northwest Ohio schools and participated in a one-hour leadership workshop. The workshop was presented by three State FFA Officers.
