Bowling Green firefighter/paramedic Michael Brown was presented with a VFW Public Servant Award during Monday’s City Council meeting by VFW Post 1148 Commander Stephen Ledbetter.
Each year, the VFW recognizes a public servant in the community.
Brown has been with the Bowling Green Fire Division since 2018.
“From day one, Michael has been a tremendous asset to us here in Bowling Green,” Fire Chief Bill Moorman wrote in his recommendation. “Growing up here, he has a love and commitment to the citizens of this great city that is second to none, and this certainly shows in everything he does for this community.”
Brown gives back to the community through volunteer efforts with charitable events such as the BGSU food drive, Black Swamp Arts Festival, and organizing the Dave Molnar Memorial Golf Outing.
“Michael never shies away from extra duties and he is the first to volunteer for extra tasks,” Moorman said. “Michael has taken on many leadership roles and is our go-to person for our Community Risk Reduction Program, fire investigation, fireworks liaison, and countless other duties that he gladly takes on.”
“Michael has proven to be a great mentor for our new firefighters, making sure that they are prepared for the many obstacles that they will face throughout their career,” the chief said.
Brown is a two-term union president, who “works diligently to ensure that the relationship between the union and the city administration is one that is based on respect and professionalism.”
Mayor Mike Aspacher recognized the honor bestowed on Brown.
“Michael truly is a credit to the department and this community,” he said.
