Bowling Green City Council received a report Monday evening on the work of the city’s Human Relations Commission. Lindsay-Jo Douglas, chair of the Human Relations Commission, presented the following details from 2025 for the organization:

  • Received an increased allocation from $1,600 to $2,500.
  • Gave the Drum Major for Peace Award to Brown Bag Food Project.
  • Awarded Brown Bag Food Project $200.
  • Held a special meeting to condemn KKK flyers distributed in the community.
  • Restructured and formalized the grant application process, creating an application window and scoring rubric.
  • Received eight grant applications during the first window in the spring. Awarded five grants for a total of $1,100, with the recipients being recognized at a City Council meeting.
  • Received nine grant applications for fall 2025 application window that were evaluated this past Friday. The results will be presented at a future meeting.
  • Began the process of reviving the Multifaith Breakfast, planned for April 14, 2026, with more information to come.

Douglas thanked council and the city administration for continued support, plus recognized the volunteers serving on the Human Relations Commission.

She also invited all present to this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. tribute event on Friday, Jan. 16, at 1 p.m., at Wood County District Public Library, where The Cocoon will receive the Drum Major for Peace Award.
