The Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Department is inviting the community to participate in National Pollinator Week in collaboration with Pollinator Partnership. The weeklong event is celebrated through the City of Bowling Green’s pollinator challenge and the Building Pollinator Friendly Yards Presentation.
Join the BG Parks and Recreation Department for the Building Pollinator Friendly Yards presentation as Kaleigh Obrock, agriculture coordinator with Pollinator Partnership, will talk about how to make yards more pollinator friendly through the use of native plants, integrated pest management, and sustainable management practices. A nature walk will follow.
The presentation takes place Wednesday, June 18, at 7 p.m., and will be located at the Wintergarden/St. John’s Nature Preserve. This is a free program, and attendees are to email Cinda Stutzman at stutzman@bgohio.org or call 419-353-0301 to register.
To ensure a comfortable experience, attendees are encouraged to wear weather-appropriate clothing and footwear suitable for walking on nature trails.
Celebrate National Pollinator week all week long by participating in the City of Bowling Green Pollinator Challenge with iNaturalist. Use the iNaturalist app to snap photos of bees, butterflies, moths and other pollinators throughout the city. Get outside and become a citizen scientist to help with pollinator conservation efforts.
Registration is not required. All that’s needed to participate is a smartphone. Download the iNaturalist app and create an account. Locate the City of Bowling Green Pollinator Challenge Project https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/city-of-bowling-green-pollinator-challenge. Explore your yard, your neighborhood or a park to locate pollinators in action between June 16 and 22.
