Bowling Green Police responded after a Jeep crashed into an ATM at 1616 E. Wooster St., on Wednesday around 2:36 a.m.
Martin Hernandez, 55, of Bowling Green, was charged with hitting the ATM and a parked vehicle, OVI with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.145, leaving the scene of an accident, and failure to maintain reasonable control.
Hernandez’ license was confiscated and he was taken to the Wood County Jail.
When police arrived, they were flagged down by multiple witnesses. The Jeep was sitting in the parking lot at Greenwood Centre. It had major damage to the front bumper and windshield, and both airbags were deployed.
The witnesses said after the Jeep struck the ATM, it sped off and hit a car parked in the lot. They told police the driver got out and limped across the parking lot toward Clough Street.
The ATM had significant damage to the southwest side of it. There was a tree knocked over next to the ATM and a headlight from the Jeep laying on the ground. The front grill of the Jeep was laying on a concrete divider several feet away.
Hernandez, the owner of the Jeep, was contacted by police and said he was waiting outside his nearby residence to speak with officers. He reportedly told police that he crashed because the brakes weren’t working. He also said he had consumed two margaritas prior to the crash.
Hernandez took a breath test, which reportedly showed a BAC of 0.145.
