BG Parks and Rec plans ‘Halloweek of Fun’ starting on Saturday

Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Department is planning a Halloweek of Fun starting Saturday, Oct. 23. Following is a list of the activities planned:

  • The Haunted Mile obstacle course fun run on Saturday, Oct. 23. This is a non-timed 1-mile obstacle course that will have some mild spooky Halloween yard type scenery mixed in with obstacles to provide a family-friendly environment. Participants can go at their own pace, and bypass any obstacles and mud if they wish.
  • Sunday Slime Time, a parent-child craft activity on Sunday, Oct. 24. Children and parents are invited to stop by the Bowling Green Community Center anytime between 2-4 p.m. to make their own batch of two-ingredient Halloween slime to take home. This is a free drop-in activity while supplies last.
  • Monday Virtual Funday, featuring a costume and jack-o-lantern contest on Monday, Oct. 25. Send photos of entries to ivan@bgohio.org by Oct. 22, and compete for top prize in the categories of: best individual costume, best duo/group themed costumes, most original/creative, and best jack-o-lantern entry.
  • Terrorific Tuesday family fun at the community center. Stop by the community center between 5-7 p.m. for some activities for youth and families, including some classic short black and white scary movies playing in the meeting room, box hockey, giant Jenga, pop-a-shot basketball, and climbing wall challenges. These are free drop-in activities for youth and families.
  • Spooky Cookie Creations, a parent-child craft activity on Wednesday, Oct. 27. Stop by the community center between 5-7 p.m. to decorate a sugar cookie with a Halloween theme using icing, candy and creativity. A prize will be awarded for the best decorated cookie. This is a free drop-in activity while supplies last.
  • Drive Boo Trick or Treating at Carter Park on Thursday, Oct. 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. This is a free family event, where children can put on their Halloween costumes and drive through Carter Park, receiving treats from Bowling Green area businesses and organizations through the car windows. Participants may decorate their vehicles. 
  • Walk on the Wild Side, pumpkin scavenger hunt at Wintergarden Park on Friday, Oct. 29. Bring a flashlight from home and come take a walk on the wild side in Wintergarden Nature Preserve to search for fun-themed pumpkins spread out around the designated trail, approximately three-quarters of a mile long. Participants may dress up in Halloween costumes. There will be Halloween activities followed by a hike and scavenger hunt in the dark. The events are free. Participants may drop in anytime between 4-8 p.m., with no trail departures after 8 p.m.
