Bowling Green Police arrested a man early Monday morning after he allegedly bit off a large portion of another man’s ear during a fight.
Officers were dispatched around 1:30 a.m. to a fight outside a bar in the 100 block of North Main Street. They found Jesus Garcia, 56, who had blood on his face and hands.
Garcia reportedly first told police that he had fallen outside the bar. Police saw the blood on the sidewalk leading to the front of the bar, and inside they found a man with a “large chunk” of his ear missing.
Garcia then reportedly told police he had gotten into a physical altercation with the other man over a barstool in the establishment. He said he was outside the bar on East Court Street when two men ran up to him.
Police reviewed the video from one of the downtown cameras. The video reportedly shows the victim walking out the front entrance of the bar, and Garcia running out of the back entrance toward the victim.
The video reportedly shows both men on the ground, with Garcia’s face attached to the left side of the victim’s head. It then shows a friend of the victim separating the two men.
Officers searched the area for the missing part of the victim’s ear. However, the camera footage reportedly showed that after the men were separated, Garcia picked up something and placed it in his pants pocket. Later when Garcia sees the police cruiser, the video reportedly showed him taking something out of his pocket and appearing to throw it into the sewer drain outside the bar.
Garcia was charged with felonious assault and tampering with evidence. He was taken to Wood County Jail.
