Bowling Green Police arrested a 16-year-old after he reportedly threatened people with a baseball bat, and used the bat to smash a car windshield.
Police were called to the 1000 block of Fairview Avenue on Tuesday, around 9:49 p.m., for a report of juveniles outside yelling. When police arrived on the scene, a woman pointed out a teen trying to jump over a fence. The boy was unable to clear the fence, and reportedly took off running with an officer in pursuit. An unknown female stopped the teen.
The boy reportedly smelled of alcohol, and gave police a fictitious name and date of birth. He gave police several different spellings for his middle name. He did field sobriety tests – showing all six signs of impairment, according to the police report.
Witnesses on the scene said the teen and another male had a baseball bat and started to threaten to hit others, then started hitting a vehicle, destroying the windshield.
Other witnesses told police the boy’s real first name, and another officer recognized him from an incident last week.
The boy’s mother was called to the scene, but he reportedly used foul language and refused to speak with her. The mother told police there was a warrant for her son’s arrest through his probation officer.
The teen was transported to the Wood County Juvenile Detention Center.
He was charged with criminal damaging, obstructing official business, falsification, and underage under the influence of alcohol.
