BG Police cite employees at three vape shops for allegedly selling nicotine to underage informant

Bowling Green Police Division has cited employees at three vape and smoke shops in the city for selling vapes to a confidential informant under the legal purchasing age of 21.

On Wednesday (May 14) afternoon, BGPD conducted nicotine compliance checks. Under Ohio law, vape shop employees must request identification for purchases.

At Mr. University and Convenience Smoke Shop, 1135 S. Main St., the employee reportedly did not ask for identification and sold the product to an underage informant.

At Trophies Tobacco and Vape Shop, 1028 N. Main St., the employee reportedly asked for the informant’s identification. But when the underage person said they didn’t have their ID on them, the employee made them swear they were 21 years old, then sold them the product.

And at Vape Time Smoke Shop, 1216 N. Main St., the employee reportedly never asked for identification prior to selling the vape. The employee at this shop also reportedly gave police several different names and said he had no identification.

All three employees were cited for illegal sale of nicotine, and the Vape Time employee was also cited for obstructing official business.
