Bowling Green Police received a report Monday (10/21) of a scam involving an unidentified male going around the city selling candy, claiming to be working on behalf of Upward Sports.
The person reporting the scam said the person selling the candy is not connected to the non-profit organization, which is associated with BG Church of the Nazarene. Upward Sports is a youth group that provides area children an opportunity to play basketball and flag football.
The Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce has distributed a letter to area businesses to advise them that Upward Sports is not currently selling candy, and to be on the lookout for solicitors trying to scam local businesses and citizens.
Anyone approached by someone saying they are selling candy for Upward Sports is asked to contact Bowling Green Police Division on the non-emergency line at 419-352-1131.
