Bowling Green Varsity Bobcats Baseball defeated Perrysburg 8-3 on Wednesday.
Bowling Green took an early lead in the second inning when Luke Johnson doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
After Perrysburg scored one run in the top of the sixth, the Bobcats answered with one of their own. Perrysburg scored when Max Heltzel doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run. Bowling Green then answered when Brock Hastings laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run.
The Bobcats took the lead for good with two runs in the third inning. In the third Nate Kress grounded out, scoring one run and Brady Gaines singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.
Bowling Green tallied three runs in the fifth inning. Gaines and Brayden Clauson powered the big inning with RBIs.
Kress led the Bobcats to victory on the pitcher’s mound. The righty surrendered three runs on six hits over six and two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking one. Jimmy LaForce threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Ben Robeson started the game for Perrysburg. The pitcher allowed four hits and four runs over three innings, striking out one. Nick Hartzell and TJ Takats entered the game as relief, throwing two innings and one inning respectively.
Bowling Green racked up nine hits in the game. Clauson, Gaines, and Ryan Jackson each had multiple hits for the Bobcats. Jackson, Gaines, and Clauson each collected two hits to lead Bowling Green.
Takats went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Perrysburg in hits.
