BGHS DECA to host 5K fundraiser to celebrate birthdays of children in foster and kinship care

From BOWLING GREEN HIGH SCHOOL DECA

Bowling Green High School DECA has announced its upcoming 5K fun run fundraiser, taking place on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 10 a.m., at Carter Park in Bowling Green. All proceeds from the event will benefit Giving Birthdays, a local non-profit organization whose mission is to ensure that children in foster or kinship care have the opportunity to celebrate their birthdays and make special birthday wishes.

Giving Birthdays was founded on the belief that every child deserves to feel loved, seen, and celebrated on their birthday. For some children in foster care, birthdays can pass by without recognition or the joy of a simple celebration. Through community support, Giving Birthdays provides personalized birthday experiences that help to brighten children’s lives and remind them of their worth.

The fun run is being organized by the BGHS DECA senior class, as part of their community giving project, in which students apply their project management and marketing skills to support meaningful causes. This year’s project managers, Avery Jicha and Nia Warman, are leading their peers in creating an event that is both family-friendly and impactful for local children and foster families.

BGHS DECA is a nationally recognized marketing education program and a satellite of Penta Career Center. It helps to prepare high school juniors and senior to become leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management.
