BHS Cross Country results from 10/28
BGHS Boys Result: OHSAA Regional Meet – Hedges Boyer Park – Tiffin, OH
The boys team placed 4th out of 7 in a very fast and competitive Regional Race on Saturday. The top 2 teams qualified to the State Meet. St. Francis won the meet with 54 points, followed by Perryburg with 64. Anthony Wayne edged the bobcats with 76 and BG finished with 80. Lexington, Sylvania Northview and Lima Shawnee rounded out the field in that order.
Individually, Senior Aidan Novinsky led the Bobcats with a 4th place finish with a time of 15:43 and qualified for the Division 1 State Championship Meet this Saturday, November 4th. The top 8 runners qualify as individuals. Sophomore Landon Fry (16:01) and Junior Erek Kendrick (16:03) just missed the qualifying mark and finished in 10th and 11th place. Junior Ash Fleming ran their best race of the season with a time of 16:36. Sam Wiles, Sam Challu, and Garrett Bateson rounded out the Bobcats top 7.
This will be Novinsky’s 2nd trip to the state meet. He qualified as a Junior in 2022, and placed 68th with a time of 16:36. He will be looking to improve on that time and place this Saturday.
Girls Result: OHSAA Regional Meet
Junior Annie Oberlander represented the Bobcats in Division 1 Regional Meet on Saturday. After finishing 16th in the District last week, She ran a tremendous race on Saturday placing 20th at the Regional. She remained competitive throughout her race and was in 13th place at the 2 mile mark. The top 8 runners qualified to the State Meet.

Bowling Green Girls Cross Country team comes up just short of qualifying for the Regional Meet 10/21
The Bowling Green Girls Cross Country team came up just short of qualifying for the Regional Meet finishing 5th in the Division 1 District Meet on Saturday at Leaders Farm in Napoleon (Top 4 qualified). The girls ran their best race of the season and all 7 runners ran their season best time. The Bobcats had a top 5 average season best of 20:54 coming into the District meet and ran a top 5 average of 20:23 on Saturday. Perrysburg won the meet with 30, Toledo Notre Dame finished 2nd with 80, Anthony Wayne was 3rd with 94 and Sylvania Northview finished with 100. The Bobcats scored 116 for 5th. Annie Oberlander was BG’s top runner grabbing the final qualifying spot finishing 16th. She ran a 19:56, which was her first time under 20:00 for the season. She will move on to represent BG at the Regional Meet next Saturday at Hedges Boyer Park in Tiffin.

The Bowling Green Boys Cross Country Team finished 3rd in the Division 1 District race on Saturday at Leaders Farm in Napoleon. Top 4 teams from the race move onto the OHSAA Regional competition next Saturday 10/28 at Hedges Boyer Park in Tiffin. Perrysburg won the race with 53, Anthony Wayne also finished with 53 (Perrysburg won on a 6th man tie breaker). The Bobacts had 71, and Sylvania Northview rounded out the top 4 with 85. BGHS Football team celebrates Homecoming with 83-14 win over Woodward
The Bobcats football team put up 70 first half points and were charged up by Ja’Ceous Shannons performance that led the Bobcats with 10 rushing attempts for 231 rushing yards and 4 TDs. Peyton Harris also had 149 rushing yards and 2 TDs. 10/6
BGHS Girls Tennis continue to semi finals after good showing at sectionals
BGHS Girls competed in sectional tennis at the University of Findlay and the the East side YMCA yesterday. BGHS had 2 singles players advance to the semifinals as well as a Doubles team advancing to the semifinals. This also qualifies them for district tennis next Thursday at Port Clinton. The Bobcat Girls Team participated in the Liberty Center Cross Country Extravaganza on Saturday placing 7th of 18 teams in the combined D1 & D2 race. The race was won by Anthony Wayne (Ranked 22 in the Ohio D1 Coaches Poll). The Bobcats placed ahead of NLL rivals Northview, Southview, Whitmer, Clay, Springfield & Napoleon. The boys ran an impressive 16:21 average for the top 5 runners.
Senior Aidan Novinsky inched his way closer to the school record of 15:24 (Set by Zach Applegate in 2016) as he ran a 15:40. Teammate, Junior Erek Kendrick moved into the 3rd all time best time in school history running a 15:49 for the 5k course.

The Bobcat Boys shot a season low 324, at Eagles Landing Golf Course but fell 4 strokes short of Cardinal Division Champion Napoleon. The 324 tied Clay for second place in the 18 hole tournament. The tie was broken with the 5th players score which landed BG in 3rd place.

BGHS Cross Country compete at Dave’s Invitational in memory of Chet Sullwood
BGHS Girls Result: The Bobcat Girls competed in the Dave’s Invitational in memory of Chet Sullwood. The meet was hosted by St. Francis at Ottawa Park Golf Course in Toledo. BG finished 4th in a field of 11 teams. Perrysburg, Ohio Coaches Poll 5th ranked team in Division 1, won the event with 31 points. BG finished ahead of NLL Rivals Anthony Wayne, Whitmer, and Southview.

BGHS Boys Result: The Bobcat boys also competed in Dave’s Invitational. The race featured 5 Ohio Coaches Poll State Ranked Teams of the 13 teams in the field. 16th ranked St. Francis took the top spot followed by 13th ranked Olentangy Liberty. 22nd ranked Anthony Wayne finished 3rd only 9 points ahead of the Bobcats who finished 4th. BG was ahead of 30th ranked Sylvania Northview who finished 5th and the 3rd ranked team in Ohio in Division 2, Bay Village, who finished 6th.

3rd Aidan Novinsky(Sr.) 15:55 (2nd fastest time in school history. – school record is 15:24 set by Zach Applegate in 2016. Novinsky moves ahead of the previous school record holder – Nolan Farher who ran a 15:56 in 1999)
Bowling Green Girls Tennis finishes first place overall at doubles tournament
Bowling Green High School Girls Tennis team participated in the Michaels Doubles Tournament on Saturday 9/16/23 hosted at Fremont Ross High School. The format of the tournament was four doubles teams for each of the eight participating schools that compete in each flight. An overall winner was determined by assigning points based on the finishing position in each flight. Each match in the front part of the draw was a 10-game pro-set, in the back draw an 8-game pro-set.
#1 doubles flight: Libby and Julia Barnett started with a match against Fostoria and won 10-0. In the second match they beat Port Clinton 10-4. In the championship match they beat a feisty Fremont Ross team 10-2.
#2 doubles flight: Teeda Cromwell and Zoe Brujic started with a 10-2 win over Sandusky Perkins. The second match was against Port Clinton and was a back-and-forth match. Cromwell/Brujic were able to take 9-7 game lead and had 3 match points, but Port Clinton fought off the chances and forced a tie-break. In the tie-break Port Clinton took an early lead but Cromwell/Brujic fought back and tied it at 5-5. Cromwell/Brujic had 2 great points and were able to win the tie-break and the match, 10-9. Cromwell/Brujic won the championship against Huron 10-5.
#3 doubles flight: Olivia Hamilton/Baylie White won their first match against Sandusky 10-7. They lost their second match versus Port Clinton 10-9 (7-4) in a tough match where BG was ahead 9-7. They lost the third match 8-4 to a solid Huron team.
#4 doubles flight: Nia Warman/Sarah Mathey won their first match 10-2 versus Fremont Ross. They won the second match 10-5 against Port Clinton. They won the championship match 10-4 versus Sandusky Perkins.
BGHS Football holds on to win 41-39 over Northview with outstanding ground game
Week 5 results from 9/15. Jackson Shafer ran 180 yards with 3 TD’s, Peyton Harris had 22 runs for 151 yards, and Ja’Ceous Shannon also netted 137 yards on the ground and 2 TD’s. Brennan Howard led the defense with 7 tackles and 2 pass defenses. The Bobcats have won two games in a row and are currently 4-1 on the season.

Former Bobcat records 5 aces, 19 successful serves for Liberty-Benton
Alyssa Roberts of Bowling Green helped lead the Liberty-Benton Eagles junior varsity volleyball team to victory on Wednesday (9/13).
The Eagles won the first point after a serve by the Arlington Red Devils in the first set at Arlington High School. The ball was tossed to Eagles’ libero Alyssa Roberts to serve. She scored a point, then another and another. After 19 successful serves, including five aces by Roberts, the Eagles triumphed over the Red Devils with a perfect 25-0 score.
The Eagles’ JV Coach Sarah Parker explained that for this win to happen, the girls, as a whole, made zero errors in the set – zero hitting, passing, and setting errors. This was a total team effort.
Liberty-Benton’s Varsity Coach Julie Todd announced that in her 20-plus years of coaching volleyball, this has never happened. The Eagles defeated the Red Devils in the second set, ending the night with a victory.

The closest match of the day was at second doubles. Hamilton/White started out hot and won the first set 6-3. Viamajala/Luke came back in the second set and hit a lot of shots up the middle of the court and won 6-4. Hamilton/ White started the 3rd set very well and earned a couple of early breaks and went up 5-0. Hamilton/ White then got a little tight / lost a little focus and lost a game. Hamilton/ White were able to figure things out and finish the set (6-1) and win the match.

BGHS Boys Soccer loses to Springfield
FREMONT—The Bowling Green High School Boys Soccer team was defeated 3-2 on Tuesday (9/12) in an away match.
Scoring for the Bobcats were Meek and Brininger who had a goal a piece.
Bobcats drop close match to Springfield at Brandywine Golf Course Monday night
BGHS Men’s golf team lost by a final score of 176 to 179 on Monday 9/11. The loss drops the Bobcats into second place in the NLL Cardinal Division behind Springfield, heading into the NLL Tournament September 20 at Eagles Landing.

The closest match of the day was at second doubles. Hamilton/Warman were down a break in the first set and managed to come back and force a tie- break. In the tie-break, Parirlja/Tang went ahead 5-1. Hamilton/Warman managed to come back on a couple of nice lobs and a great volley to make it 5-5. They made another nice lob to go ahead 6-5 and managed to win the tie-break on a ball into the net. Parirlja/Tang made some adjustments and won the second set 6-4. In the third set Hamilton /Warman were able to make a couple of early breaks of serve to go up 4-1. At 5-2 Hamilton/Warman were serving for the match and could not hold their serve. In the next game after a couple of nice returns, and a great shot down the line, Hamilton/ Warman were able to finish the set (6-3) and win the match and the team match for Bowling Green.
The win brings Bowling Green to 8-5 on the season.
Bobcat Football rolls over Springfield 52-22
The Bowling Green High School Football team scored in every quarter of the home game against Springfield High School to take a 52-22 win into the locker room Friday night (9/8).
Ja’ceous Shannon rushed for 229 of the Bobcats’ 546 yards and scored three touchdowns in the first two quarters. He scored on a 75-yard run, a 19-yard run and a 3-yard run. Reece Rath completed a two-point conversion run on Shannon’s 75-yard touchdown run.
BG’s Peyton Harris added 12 points to the scoreboard when he rushed for 111 yards and two touchdowns. He had an 11-yard run and a 15-yard run, both in the second quarter.
Also scoring for the Bobcats were Jamison Horst on a 19-yard run; Jackson Shafer on a 34-yard run with; and a 9-yard run by Colby Joseph. Alex Wiseman-Esparza was 2-for-4 on extra points.
Springfield’s Will Scott scored all three of the Blue Devil’s touchdowns.
BGHS Boys Soccer defeats Fremont Ross
FREMONT—The Bowling Green High School Boys Soccer team defeated Fremont Ross 3-0 on Thursday (9/7) in an away match.
Scoring for the Bobcats were junior Luca Brininger with two goals and senior Grant Sonner with one. Senior goalkeeper Max Haynes recorded a clean sheet.
The team is currently 6-0 and 4-0 in the Northern Lakes League Conference.

The Bowling Green High School Boys Golf team defeated Fremont Ross 166 to 171 at Fremont Country Club Thursday (9/7).
With the victory, the Bobcats improve to 3-1 and are tied for first place in the Cardinal Division of the newly expanded Northern Lakes League. The Bobcats were led by Brandon Schoenherr with 38, Nathan Cavanagh 39, Seth Gollehon 43 and Ryan Thomas 46.

BGHS Boys Golf win against Napoleon
Bowling Green improved to 2-1 in the Northern Lakes League with a 169-181 dual match victory over Napoleon at Stone Ridge Golf Course Tuesday (9/5)
The Bobcats were led by Nathan Cavanagh with a 37, followed by Brandon Schoenherr with 42, Lukas Green and Ryan Thomas 45, Seth Gollehon 47 and Noah Szareko-Quentero 52. The Bobcats return to action on Thursday with an away match at Fremont Ross.
BGHS Cross Country teams compete in Mel Brodt Invitational
On Saturday (9/2), over 30 high school cross country teams converged on the Cross Country Course located on the former Forrest Creason Golf Course located on Bowling Green State University’s campus for the Mel Brodt Invitational. The meet was hosted by the BGSU Cross Country team.
The Bobcat Girls Cross Country team placed 10th of 27 teams overall and 8th of 14 Division 1 teams. Bowling Green girls had many personal bests for the 5K race and topped four NLL Cardinal Division opponents in the field.

The invitational is named after long-time BGSU Coach Mel Brodt. Brodt retired in 1984 after 25 years as BG’s cross country coach and 20 seasons as men’s head track coach. Brodt coached 53 Division I All-Americans, five collegiate record holders, 92 MAC Champions, and two MAC Championship teams in cross country (1969) and track (1972).
The BGHS Cross Country teams travel to Tiffin on Saturday, Sept. 9, for the Annual Tiffin Cross Country Carnival.
Bowling Green High School Football loses to Anthony Wayne.
Reece Rath had the sole Bowling Green score, a 10-yard touchdown run, in a 35-6 loss against Anthony Wayne Friday night (9/1) at Anthony Wayne.
With 17 first downs and 302 total yards, Rath led the Bobcats with 78 yards rushing. Peyton Harris ran for 74 yards and Ja’ceous Shannon ran for 68 yards.
The Bobcats couldn’t stop the Generals, who went into halftime with a 14-0 lead, after a 12-yard run by Cadence Carswell, an 86-yard run by Grant Kinnee and two extra points by Seth Vonlehmden. Kinnee threw a five-yard touchdown pass to Winn Sharp in the third quarter and a 20-yard pass to Landon Gates in the fourth quarter. Carswell capped it off for the Generals in the fourth quarter with a two-yard run.

BGHS Boys Golf defeats Southview
The Bobcat Boys Golf team improved to 1-1 in Northern Lakes League play with a win over Southview at Stone Ridge Golf Course on Tuesday (8/29). Bowling Green won 168-180.
The Bobcats were led by Nathan Cavanagh and Seth Gollehon with 40 and Brandon Schoenherr with 42. Ryan Thomas rounded out the scoring with 46. Also competing were Noah Szareko-Quintero 51 and Lukas Green 54.
The team returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 5 when they host Napoleon at Stone Ridge.

Good games at Sylvania Southview on Tuesday (8/29) found the Bowling Green High School Varsity Volleyball team on top, defeating Southview 3-1 at a Northern Lakes League conference match.

BGHS Cross Country teams opened their seasons at Eastwood Night Invitational
The Bowling Green High School Boys & Girls Cross Country teams opened their seasons on Saturday (8/26) at the Eastwood Night Invitational. The girls finished sixth out of 12 teams, and the boys were first in a field of 14 teams.
The Bobcats were scheduled to compete at the Norm Bray Invitational in Fremont, but rain totals last week were more than the course could hold and that meet was postponed. Eastwood allowed the Bobcats to enter the inaugural meet the day before the event.
The BGHS Girls had two pacers in the top 25 and finished one position ahead of NLL Cardinal Division rival Southview. The top 10 finishers for the Bobcats in the field of 183 runners were:

BGHS Boys Soccer defeats Lake 6-1
The Bowling Green High School Varsity Boys Soccer team defeated Lake High School Saturday in a home match.
Scoring for the Bobcats were Grant Sonner with three goals; Luca Brininger, two goals; and Tomas Meek, one goal.
Lake’s only score was a Bowling Green own goal.
The Bobcats’ next match is Tuesday at Clay.
Bobcat Varsity Volleyball loses in a close match against Otsego
In a tight home match against Otsego High School, the Bowling Green High School Varsity Volleyball team fell 3-2, with scores of 16-25, 25-20, 25-29, 16-18.

Bobcats roll over Fostoria in 51-28 win
FOSTORIA—The Bowling Green High School football team rushed for nearly 500 yards Friday (8/25) night in a 51-28 win over Fostoria at Memorial Stadium.
Peyton Harris, Reece Rath, Ja’ceous Shannon and Jackson Shafer each ran for over 100 yards for a combined seven touchdowns. Harris ran for 121 yards on 22 carries with two touchdowns, while Reece finished with 120 yards rushing on 13 attempts. Shannon had 103 yards on 11 carries and Shafer, who scored the first and last touchdowns of the game, had 101 yards on nine carries.
The game was tied 8-8 at the end of the first quarter, but three Bobcat touchdowns, two extra points by Alex Wiseman-Esparza and a two-point conversion run by Rath in the second quarter, put BG up for good.
In the third quarter, Rath scored on a 10-yard run and Fostoria was scoreless.
The Redmen tried to make it a game in the final quarter, with a 75-yard by Lance Miller and a 23-yard pass to Dakota Smith, but BG countered with an eight-yard run by Shannon and a 13-yard run by Shafter to close out the game 51-28.
The Bobcats are 2-0 on the season. They play Friday (9/1) at Anthony Wayne.

Bobcat football wins season opener against Otsego, 44-31
BOWLING GREEN—A strong fourth quarter for the Bowling Green High School football team gave the Bobcats a 44-31 win against the Otsego Knights Friday night (8/18) in the season opener for both teams.
Ja’ceous Shannon scored three touchdowns on 14 attempts and rushed for 156 yards, while Peyton Harris rushed for 191 yards, almost half of the Bobcats’ 387 total yards rushing. He was the first to score on a 34-yard touchdown run at 4:14 remaining in the first quarter.
Reece Rath rushed for 41 yards with two touchdowns—a two-yard run in the second quarter and a 19-yard run near the end of the fourth quarter. He also recovered a fumble for a 55-yard defensive touchdown as time ran out on the clock.
Otsego’s first touchdown came on a Devin Farley 18-yard pass to Owen Atkinson with 1:51 remaining in the first quarter. Farley’s two-point conversion pass to Jack Simpson added two to put the Knights up by one at the end of the first quarter. Farley also scored on a seven-yard run with 2:45 remaining in the second quarter. Jordyn Barnett scored twice on six-yard runs in the third and fourth quarters.
