April 17—The Sunday Matinee Series concludes this semester with U.S. films “The Show” (1922) and “The Hitch-hiker” (1953). “The Show” features forgotten comic of the silent area Larry Semon. He took fantastic, hair-raising tumbles and more—risking life and limb to satisfy audiences who took his astonishing, acrobatic feats for granted. Michael Peslikis will provide the piano accompaniment. “The Hitch-hiker” was based on a shocking, true story of a kidnapping and the mind-numbing consequences. The film quickly established Ida Lupino as a director of importance. The screening begins at 3 p.m. in the Gish Film Theater located in Hanna Hall and includes an introduction by film historian Dr. Jan Wahl. Free
