BGSU, partners to host free, family-friendly STEM and food festival

Bowling Green State University Dining, in collaboration with campus and community partners, invites students, families, and members of the learning and greater community to an educational afternoon at “STEMplate: A STEM and Food Family Festival” on Sunday, Dec. 7, from 2 – 6 p.m., at the Perry Field House.

Designed to engage minds of all ages, STEMplate will showcase the intersection of science, food, and community. With the theme “Growing Minds, Growing Communities,” the free event aims to deepen understanding of STEM – science, technology, engineering, and math – education, promote sustainable food systems, and foster awareness about food accessibility.

Highlights include:

  • Interactive STEM exhibits for hands-on learning
  • Live cooking and nutrition demonstrations
  • Science-based food solutions and experiments
  • Connections to local organizations advocating for food accessibility

Visitors can also explore six themed zones that spotlight key aspects of food and STEM:

  • Food science
  • Food management
  • Food culture
  • Food security
  • Food literacy
  • Specialty diets

Through activities and informative sessions, attendees can discover how technology, innovation, and local initiatives are shaping the future of food access.

The event is hosted in partnership with the Northwest Ohio Center for Excellence in STEM Education in the BGSU College of Education and Human Development, BGSU Dining, the Falcon Food Pantry at BGSU, and other local partners.
