BGSU Planetarium introduces three new-to-BG shows in full fall schedule

From The BGSU Planetarium

The BGSU Planetarium will offer a series of programs across a wide range of topics for Fall 2025 shows, including three shows new to the public schedule.

The public show schedule begins Sunday, Sept. 7, and runs through Sunday, Dec. 14. According to Planetarium Director Dr. Kate Dellenbusch, shows will be presented on most Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. and Sundays at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. For a detailed schedule see the flyer or visit the BGSU Planetarium website, which can be found here.

September shows include “Dino Soars! Change Over Time,” about the dinosaurs and their connections to birds living today, and “Messengers of Time and Space,” a new show for the BGSU Planetarium that provides an immersive look at the cutting-edge observatories and instruments that are currently capturing astronomical events in real-time.

October will feature another show new to BGSU audiences, “Surviving in Space.” In this show for all ages, astronaut Karen Nyberg will share what it takes to go into space. Then, starting Oct. 19, “Spooky Space” returns to invite visitors to get in the Halloween spirit.

November will bring a diverse set of three programs. “The Solar System Show—Planet Fun for Everyone,” a great show for families, tours the Solar System with a group of enthusiastic kids leading the lessons. Also in November, “Life Under the Arctic Sky,” follows the Sami people of northern Scandinavia, some of whom still live by herding reindeer in the endless days of summer and under the aurora (northern lights) during the near-endless nights of winter.

The third program of the month is “Through the Eyes of Hubble,” to mark the milestone of 35 years in orbit of the Hubble Space Telescope. The program was created five years after the launch of Hubble and details the novel first servicing mission, when astronauts in the Space Shuttle corrected the optics of Hubble’s flawed mirror. The show also includes iconic images and discoveries from the first five years of the mission.

Celebrate the Christmas season during December’s programs with the return of “The Alien Who Stole Christmas” and “Secret of the Star,” which was one of former Planetarium Director Dale Smith’s favorite shows for the holidays

Special shows for BGSU Homecoming and Family Weekend

During BGSU’s Homecoming Weekend (Sept. 12-13) and Falcon Family Weekend (Oct. 17-18), the planetarium will offer extra showings on Friday and Saturday. For Homecoming Weekend, “Exploding Universe” will be shown at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, and on Saturday, Sept. 13, shows are planned at 11 a.m. and noon.

Four special showings are planned during Falcon Family Weekend. “Edge pf Darkness” will be presented Friday, Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., and on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.

The BGSU Planetarium will host Starlit Stanzas: Creative Poetry Writing Under the Dome on Friday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. Visitors are invited to attend and be inspired to write their own poetry after viewing the simulated night sky and other astronomical sights in the planetarium.

The live program will begin with readings and discussion of several poems inspired by astronomy or the night sky, each paired with planetarium visuals.

The public is also invited to visit the BGSU rooftop observatory after evening planetarium shows, weather permitting.  The observatory will also be open to the public on clear Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays
