Bicyclist dies after crash at intersection of Slippery Elm Trail and Ohio 281

A bicyclist on the Slippery Elm Trail south of Bowling Green has died from injuries sustained Monday when his bicycle was hit by a vehicle at the trail’s intersection with Ohio 281.

Andrew Bell, 32, of Findlay, was transported by Life Flight to Mercy St. Vincent in Toledo, where he died.

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office received notification at 5:20 p.m. of a serious injury crash on Route 281 at the Slippery Elm Trail in Rudolph. The bicyclist was riding northbound on the trail when he reportedly failed to stop as he came to Route 281, and was struck by a Chevy SUV traveling east, driven by Benjamin Botjer. The bicyclist was reportedly not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The crash is still under investigation.
