The holiday season can be viewed as a time of joy and connection, but traditional shopping environments may present sensory challenges for neurodiverse individuals. To foster a more inclusive and welcoming experience, Bittersweet Farms is partnering with Target for the ninth annual sensory-friendly holiday shopping event.
On Wednesday, Nov. 12, the Target stores in Rossford, 9666 U.S. 20, and Holland, 1465 E. Mall Drive, will open one hour early, from 7 – 8 a.m., to offer a more calm, supportive shopping environment designed with sensory accessibility in mind. During this time, store lighting will be softened, music turned off, and foot traffic limited to create a more comfortable experience with sensory processing differences, including those in the autism community.
Julie Champa, development director at Bittersweet Farms, said, “This event is a celebration of neurodiversity and community. We’re honored to continue our partnership with Target to create a space where everyone can participate in the joy of holiday shopping. Inclusion means recognizing and valuing different sensory needs – and this event is one way we put that into practice.”
Families, caregivers, and individuals of all ages are invited to attend and enjoy a more peaceful shopping experience while preparing for the holidays.
