From BOWLING GREEN BAND PROGRAM
The Bobcat Bands will present two holiday band concerts on Tuesday & Thursday, Dec. 10 and 12, starting at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center each night.
On Tuesday, the BGHS Jazz Cats will begin the festivities performing the fast paced swing chart “Honeysuckle Rose by Fats Waller. Soloists include Isabella Espinosa (piano), Garrett Genson (trombone), Culley Foos (sax), and Madison Bagrowski (trombone). The unforgettable “What a Wonderful World” made famous by Louis Armstrong and “Santa’s in Town” featuring Jay Crawford and Johnathan Tefft (trumpets) will round out their portion of the program.
The eighth grade band will begin with a challenging arrangement of “Adeste Fidelis” followed by “Housetop Variations.” “Deck the Halls with Old Composers” is a creative arrangement combining “Deck the Halls” with many famous composers including, Handel, Bach, Beethoven, Tchaikowsky, Haydn, Offenbach and Rossini.
The concert band opening overture, “Cloudgate,” is a reflection of the city of Chicago. Downtown Chicago, In Millenium Park, the gigantic stainless steel elliptical sculpture called Cloud Gate captures images of both earth and sky. The famous song, “Simple Gifts,” has been used in hundreds of settings including this beautiful arrangement by Frank Ticheli. What could be better than a ” Snow Day Celebration” written by the composer in memory of the fun and excitement of having a snow day during his childhood. The concert band closes with the snazzy jazzy “Jing Jing, Jingle.”
For Thursday’s concert, the sixth grade band will be playing “Holiday Sampler,” “Donut Factory,” and their very own “Bobcat Proud 2019″ which was written by members of the sixth grade band. Melodies in Bobcat Proud 2019” were written by sixth graders Kate Tyrell, Simon Baney, Grace Nuhfer Jeremiah Kaba, Arianna Chung, and Cole Boswell.
The seventh grade band will be performing “Promise of a New Sunrise” by David Shaffer, “At the Feast of Stephen” arranged by Scott Watson,
“Incantation and Ritual” by Brian Balmages, and “The Twelve Songs of Christmas” arranged by David Shaffer.
The symphonic band will close both concerts – Tuesday and Thursday. Several students will be soloists including Colin Fahy, Alex Landgraf, Sasha Zengel, Sarah Munson, Manita Ohja, Included in their performances will be “Santa’s Journey” by Roy Kaighin, “Greensleeves” arranged by Alfred Reed, “Three Wise Guys” by Julie Giroux, and Leroy Anderson’s holiday classic, “Sleigh Ride.”
The bands will be conducted by Jeremy Sison, Kayla Gronsky, and Bruce Corrigan.
