Caroline ‘Jean’ Lanning

Caroline “Jean” Lanning, of Bowling Green, OH, passed away on July 18, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 10, 1928, to the late Merle Boice and Irene Nancy (Noblit) Hall.  She married William Eugene Lanning Sr. and he preceded her in death in 2001. 

Jean worked for the General Telephone company for 35 years.  Jean’s final title was Chief Operator. She was involved in numerous community organizations, including the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 45, Beta Sigma Phi, Greenwood Chapter No. 159 Order of the Eastern Star, Bowling Green Women of the Elks, and the Bowling Green Women’s Club. She also dedicated her time to the Wood County Hospital Guild and volunteered at Wood County Hospital.

She will be deeply missed by her family, including her daughters LuAnn Lanning and Darlene Hecht, her son William Lanning, son-in-law Larry Durdel, foster son Michael; grandchildren: Shad, Rod, Danielle, Amy, Lisa, Brad, Dustin, Heather, and William; 29 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren; and siblings: Edward Lockmiller; Karen (Lockmiller) Neier; and Byron “Lloyd” Hall and sister-in-law Lucy Lockmiller.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents: Nancy and Merle; husband William Lanning Sr., a daughter Nancy Marie Durdel, grandson Ryan Michael Rayner, and siblings: Walter Boice, Minnie Conrad, Lucille Conrad, Lee Spears, Bill Boice, Norma Spears, and Richard Lockmiller.

Visitation for Jean will be held on Monday, July 22, 2024 from 4:00 until the time of an Order of the Eastern Star service at 6:00 at Deck-Hanneman Funeral Home, 1460 W. Wooster Street, Bowling Green.  Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday,  July 23, 2024, at 11:00 am, at the funeral home.  Interment will immediately follow at Wood Co. Memory Gardens, Bowling Green.
