It’s been slow going, but the brush collection by the City of Bowling Green is now nearly 75% complete, according to the city’s Communication Director Amanda Gamby.
In response to the heavy tree damage caused by storms at the end of August, Bowling Green’s brush collection began on Sept. 3 instead of the previously announced date of Sept. 16.
Because of the previously planned workload, the Public Works Division was only able to dedicate one collection crew to the earlier, unplanned collection. Due to combined with the sheer volume of brush, the number of residents placing brush on the curb for this collection, and the tree damage that the city sustained, it has taken longer than customary for the brush collection.
But now that this is the planned week for the collection, Public Works has two dedicated crews working together to remove the piles from the curb, which has sped up the process.
As of Thursday, crews were approximately three-quarters finished with the collection and continue to work through the city to collect piles placed at the curb. A Brush Collection Map is posted to the city’s website showing where crews have completed the September collection. The scheduled October brush collection will remain the same.
