On June 14, 2005, the Cocoon Shelter welcomed its first survivor and her child, opening its doors through grassroot efforts, dedicated founding members, and the steadfast support of the Wood County community.
Now known simply as the Cocoon, the organization has grown into Wood County’s only comprehensive emergency shelter and advocacy agency for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Over the past two decades, the Cocoon has supported more than 8,000 survivors—including children and pets—on their path to safety, healing, and justice.
To commemorate this milestone, The Cocoon will host two events in the month of July that are family-friendly and open to the public.
Sunday, July 13: Perrysburg Family Fun Day
From 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., at Rotary Park, there will be live music, circus performers, food trucks, and more. There is no cost for admission. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase from Trip’n Biscuits and Taco Fiesta Hinojosa.
Saturday, July 26: Annual Parking Lot Party
The Annual Parking Lot Party will take place at Arlyn’s Good Beer, 520 Hankey Ave., Bowling Green, from 4 – 10 p.m. There will be live music, refreshments available from Arlyn’s Good Beer, and food selections from Now Serving to benefit the Cocoon. There is no cost for admission. Attendees are welcome to bring their own non-alcoholic refreshments.
