The Cocoon, Wood County’s comprehensive domestic and sexual violence agency, will be highlighting awareness about domestic violence during October in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
New this year, The Cocoon will be partnering with Novel Blends and local director Melissa Shaffer to bring a live, 30-minute drama in one act to the community.
“I Dream Before I Take the Stand” centers around a woman attempting to hold her perpetrator accountable while a defense attorney tries to distort her innocent walk through the park. (Trigger warning: this 30-minute reading is a re-enactment of a small portion of cross-examination of a survivor in a sexual assault case.)
The event is being held on Sundays, Oct. 16 and 23, at Novel Blends, 116 S. Main St., Bowling Green. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., the performance begins at 6 p.m., and time will be allotted for questions following. Cocoon advocates will be available at the event.
Reservations are not required and there is no cost to attend. Monetary donations will be accepted at the door to benefit programs and services for survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
In addition, The Cocoon will be hosting the Wood County Clothesline Project on the campus of BGSU on Oct. 19, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
The Cocoon is available 24/7 every day of the year to help anyone experiencing abuse. A trained advocate can be reached by calling 419-373-1730 and selecting option #2. All services are provided at no cost.
