Community events in Bowling Green are being canceled due to concerns about the coronavirus.
On the list so far are the Wood County Youth Olympics, the Career Premiere, and an ODNR program in Bowling Green on urban wildlife.
Wood County Prosecuting Attorney Paul Dobson said based on the recommendation of Gov. Mike DeWine and the Wood County Health Department, the 2020 Wood County Youth Olympics scheduled for this Saturday has been canceled.
“While the current known cases of COVID-19, the so-called coronavirus, are few in this state and far away, the concern has grown so great that the Youth OIympics Committee can no longer anticipate putting so many adults and children together in good conscience,” Dobson wrote in a statement Tuesday.
Dobson thanked all the volunteers and apologized to the participants and their family members.
“We hope and trust that these significant precautions which are being taken around the state and around the country will keep this illness at bay,” Dobson said.
The OhioMeansJobs – Wood County Career Premiere event to be held at the Wood County Fairgrounds on Wednesday evening, has been canceled due to coronavirus concerns and recommendations from the governor.
And because DeWine has restricted travel for all state employees, the program planned on urban wildlife for the Kuebeck Forum on Nature and Environment and the Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Foundation has been canceled. The program was to be presented by representatives from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division on Wildlife.
Also, a visit by Democratic judicial candidates — Ohio Supreme Court candidates Judges Jennifer Brunner and John O’Donnell , Judge Myron Duhart who is running for Court of Appeals Judge and Joel Kuhlman who is running for Common Pleas Judge — scheduled for Thursday at Grounds for Thought was cancelled. The candidates were coming to the area for an event at Northwest State Community College, but all events there have been called off.
