Wood County Auditor Matthew Oestreich accepted the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting on behalf of his office. This distinction is presented by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for Wood County’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).

The GFOA states the award’s “attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. [Wood County’s] CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive ‘spirit of full disclosure’ to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential user groups to read the CAFR.”

Wood County has received this prestigious award for 21 consecutive years. In order to be awarded a Certificate of Achievement, a government must publish an easily readable and efficiently organized comprehensive annual financial report. This report must satisfy both generally accepted accounting principles and applicable legal requirements.

“I am extremely proud of my staff who work so hard to make this award possible,” said Auditor Oestreich. “In particular, I need to highlight the efforts of Rick Rosendale, our Audit & Financial
Reporting Accountant. Rick spends all year compiling our CAFR, making the financial data of Wood County accessible to our citizens in an easy-to- read one-volume report. Rick has been responsible for the preparation of the CAFR since its inception in 1996.”

The award most recently presented covers fiscal 2016, the year ended December 31, 2016. Copies of the CAFR, and the condensed Citizens Financial Report, may be obtained in-person at the Wood County Auditor’s Office. These reports are also accessible online at the Wood County Auditor’s website, www.co.wood.oh.us/auditor/ by clicking the link 2016 CAFR & Citizens Report.
