Wood County is now up to 11,129 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 since March, according to the Thursday, Feb. 11, update from the Wood County Health Department. That is 74 more cases than on Monday.
The county stats reported today also listed six more deaths from COVID-19, with the explanation that four of those deaths occurred in November and December.
The number of doses of the COVID vaccine being given in Wood County as of Wednesday is 13,194 – which is 10.09% of the county’s population.
The number of active COVID cases in the county today is 129, which is 28 fewer than on Monday. Active cases are Wood County residents who are being monitored by the health department according to state and federal isolation criteria.
A total of 548 local residents have been hospitalized for the coronavirus since March, with six more being hospitalized since Monday.
The county has recorded a total of 167 deaths from COVID. Of those, one was in his 30s, two were in their 40s, five were in their 50s, 17 were in their 60s, 36 in their 70s, 65 in their 80s, and 40 in their 90s, and one in her 100s.
Of the total 11,129 cases in the county as of today, those with the virus ranged in age from 1 to 103, with the median age of 39. Of those testing positive, 5,812 were female, and 5,317 were male.
Cases involving BGSU students and staff who live in surrounding counties and commute are included in BGSU figures, but not Wood County’s total count.
Every Thursday, the Wood County Health Department lists “active cases” by ZIP codes. As of this week, there are 18 areas in the county with active cases.
The Perrysburg ZIP code area again has the most this week, with 41-45 active cases. Next is Bowling Green, with 36-40 active cases, followed by Rossford with 6-10 active cases.
Areas with 1-5 cases each include Bloomdale, Bradner Fostoria, Grand Rapids, Haskins, Luckey, Millbury, Northwood, Pemberville, Risingsun, Rudolph, Tontogany, Walbridge, Wayne and Weston.
The latest numbers reported for schools (week of Feb. 1) in the county included 16 students and 4 staff:
- Bowling Green City Schools: 0 students, 1 staff.
- Northwood: 1 student, 0 staff.
- Penta Career Center: 2 students, 0 staff.
- Perrysburg: 12 students, 2 staff.
- Rossford: 1 student, 0 staff.
- Wood County ESC: 0 students, 1 staff.
Of the total COVID cases in Wood County, at least 864have been in long-term care facilities – 449 were residents and 415 were staff. Those numbers from long-term care facilities are updated every Thursday.

According to the Ohio Department of Health, at least 104 of Wood County’s deaths from COVID-19 have occurred in long-term care facilities.
