The number of COVD-19 cases on Bowling Green State University is nearing the lowest level since the pandemic began, Chief Health Officer Ben Batey reported Tuesday.
In his weekly report he urged members of the university community to continue following campus protocols, so the progress can continue. This, as well as the roll out of vaccines, should move the Wood County’s alert level lower. It is now red, the second highest.
From Feb. 15 through Feb. 21, 13 news cases were reported on campus. All cases were students, 11 of whom live off campus. That’s almost half of the 25 cases reported last week, and continues a steady decline. There have been 268 cases reported since Jan. 11.
One student who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 is in isolation in campus housing. Another 11 who have been exposed are in quarantine in residence halls.
In the past week, 975 individuals, both symptomatic and asymptomatic, have been tested with seven testing positive. That’s a 0.72 positivity rate, a tenth of the state’s 7 percent positivity rate.
Since the first of the year, 9,661 tests have been conducted with 338 testing positive, a 3.5 percent positivity rate.
