Defaced sign draws ire of county Democrats

Defaced billboard in Grand Rapids

The Wood County Democrats have issued a statement deploring the alleged theft and defacing of a small Harris for President billboard on the  20300 block of River Road Grand Rapids.

The vandalized sign including scrawled swastikas, is still on display, according to Zachary Schmidt, chair of the Wood County Democratic Party.

According to the report filed by the deputy who responded to the site Sunday, the resident said that “ he was on a walk over a week ago and located the sign in the ditch along W. River Rd. He then took the sign home, posted it upside down and placed swastikas on it and hung (two) American flags upside down.”

Schmidt  said that cut marks on sign and the zip ties suggest it was forcefully removed.

The deputy said because Schmidt  could not prove the sign was stolen, no charges would be pressed.
