Doug Ruck announces candidacy for Wood County Juvenile/Probate Court Judge

J.Douglas Ruck has announced his candidacy for Judge of the Wood County Probate & Juvenile Court. In his almost 28 years of law practice centered in Pemberville, Perrysburg and Bowling Green, Ruck has handled nearly every type of case heard in Probate and Juvenile Court. He is experienced in probate and estate planning, trust and estate litigation, real estate, and business law, and land use, including zoning and agricultural law. 

Ruck has represented and advised local governments as a village solicitor in Luckey for several years, and as the village solicitor for Gibsonburg for the last 16 years.

He has handled countless cases in Probate Court, including estates, adoptions, guardianships, and legal name changes. In Juvenile Court, Ruck has counseled families in custody, child support and delinquency cases, and frequently litigated subpoena and privilege issues in abuse, dependency, and neglect cases. His litigation practice has taken him to 18 different counties in Northwest Ohio.

As a longtime scout leader and volunteer serving young people in a variety of settings, Ruck has a passion and concern for youth.  

“Probate & Juvenile Courts hear some tough cases. I’ll approach each with integrity, respect for the law, and compassion for the people involved,” stated Ruck. “I know that I have the experience and temperament to serve the people of Wood County in this capacity, and I would welcome the opportunity to do so.”

Ruck, who is currently with Ruck & Ruck Law in Pemberville, has handled cases in Minneapolis, and cases in federal court in Toledo, and Grand Rapids, Michigan. He also is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. 

Doug is a father of three, an Eagle Scout, and the father of three Eagle Scouts – Tyler, Holden, and Carys. He’s been a scoutmaster for more than 20 years. Doug’s wife, Lisa, is a kindergarten teacher and has been a 4-H advisor, coach and youth leader.  

Ruck will kick off his campaign on Thursday, Jan. 29, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., at Mr. Spots, second floor, in Bowling Green.
