The Findlay Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is handling a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on Midblock Underpass, near W. Lytle Street, in the City of Fostoria. The crash was reported at 3:54 p.m., on Friday, (May 7).
A red 2006 Mazda 3 was driven by Kevin Tomkinson, 50, of Fostoria, southbound on Midblock Underpass. A yellow 1997 Ford F450 box truck was driven by Dennis Debelak, 78, of Fostoria, was also southbound on Midblock Underpass. Debelak was stopped at a red light when he was struck from behind by Tomkinson.
Debelak was wearing his safety belt and was taken to Promedica-Fostoria Hospital with minor injuries. Mr. Tomkinson was not wearing a safety belt and was also taken to Promedica-Fostoria Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Assisting at the scene were Fostoria Police Department, Fostoria Fire & EMS, and D&D Towing.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor, and the crash remains under investigation.
