Eldon E. Nickels, affectionately known as ‘Nick’, 85, was born on December 6, 1939, and passed away on December 6, 2024, at Mercy Health Perrysburg. He was born to the late Richard and Meta Nickels (Basselman) in Hamler, Ohio. He married Mary Ethel McMillin at the Lutheran Church of the Master. Mary Ethel preceded him in death on October 10, 2015.
Eldon graduated from Deshler High School and served in the US Army from 1963 to 1968. Nick drove a semi-truck for 43 years without receiving a ticket or safety violation. Nick loved animals and had a special place in his heart for thoroughbred horses and dogs. He loved being outdoors, mowing the lawn, and sitting in the garage cracking walnuts. Eldon was a man of few words who was quick-witted, kind-hearted, and loved his family.
He is survived by his stepchildren, Sharon Price (Jerry), Gene McMillin (Pam), and Beth Juby (Robert), ten grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by stepsons Wayne and Gary McMillin and great-grandchildren Joshua Humphreys and Savannah Harding. He is also preceded in death by brothers Melvin and Norman Nickels.
Visitation will be held Wednesday December 11, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Abiding Word Lutheran Church, 17202 Mercer Rd Bowling Green, Ohio. His funeral service will begin at noon. Interment will follow in New Belleville Ridge-Dowling Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Dunn Funeral Home in Bowling Green.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Henry County 4-H or Wood County 4-H.
