Eleanor A Scovell

Eleanor A. Scovell of Bowling Green peacefully passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 10, 2025.

She was born on February 16, 1943, in Pringle, Pennsylvania to the late John and Mary Krehely. She was a graduate of Swoyersville High School and received an LPN degree from General Hospital in Wilkes Barre, where she worked as a surgical nurse in neurosurgery. In 1965, she married William M. Scovell and transferred to the University of Minnesota University Hospital in Minneapolis as a cardiothoracic surgery nurse assisting Dr. C. Walton Lillehei, considered “The Father of Open-Heart Surgery.” Following her professional career, she delighted in raising her children and spending time with family. She was a faithful member of St. Aloysius Church, enjoyed friends, cooking, and traveling. Eleanor and William were happily married for 60 years.

She is survived by her brother, Robert Krehely, her husband, William, her four children, Dr. Sherry D. Scovell-Fitch (Steven), Dr. William M. Scovell, Jr. (Randi Dressel), Jeffrey J. Scovell (Laurie Brocato) and Dr. Christopher M. Scovell and her grandchildren, Jack Fitch, Andrew Fitch, Connor Scovell and Brynn Scovell, whom she adored, and 5 grand-dogs.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Cecilia Biggs, Margaret Kaletski, Elizabeth DiMaria, Virginia Bixby, Kathleen Brennan, Mary Ann Deitz, and Bernadine Judge.

Flowers are appreciated or memorial contributions may be made in Eleanor’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Deck-Hanneman Funeral Home. A funeral mass in her honor will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at 10:00 am at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, followed by interment at Oak Grove Cemetery.
