An annual flyover looking for marijuana plants in Wood County farm fields netted 90 plants, according to Wood County Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn.
The helicopter flyover on Thursday covered most of Wood County, the sheriff said. The number of plants discovered was more than customary.
“It’s more than we’ve had in a couple years,” Wasylyshyn said Thursday night.
Once the marijuana plants are located, they are removed. Law enforcement will make arrests if they can determine who is responsible for the plants, the sheriff said. The plants are put into evidence storage, which is a secured location. If it is going to be needed for court, the plants are retained until the court process is complete and then they are destroyed. If there are no suspects, the plants are destroyed, Wasylyshyn said.
