Libby Barnett, Whitney Bechstein, Maggie Titus, and Lauren Goberman applied and recorded their audition tapes for the Ohio Music Education Association’s state high school honors choir.

The four Bowling Green High students were accepted to the 119-voice choir from out of hundreds of other young musicians across the state.

And the four trekked twice to Sylvania and once to Columbus for three-hour rehearsals.

Then on Thursday, when they were scheduled to head to Cleveland for final rehearsals and the performance at the OMEA Professional Conference, Mother Nature intervened. The winter storm that battered the region, also battered their plans.

On Monday, the four singers received balloons and flowers, and a small party with their peers in high school to celebrate their accomplishment.

Having four singers selected to the state honor choir is notable for a school the size of Bowling Green, said Beth Vaughn, director of choral activities for BG City schools.

As a senior, this was Lauren Goberman’s last opportunity to participate. Whitney Bechstein and Maggie Titus are juniors, and Libby Barnett is a sophomore.
