Some homes on the west side of Bowling Green were evacuated this morning after a gas line was hit during a waterline replacement at the northwest corner of Conneaut and Lafayette avenues.
The gas line, which reportedly was unmarked, was hit by crews around 9 a.m., according to Assistant Municipal Administrator Joe Fawcett. Columbia Gas workers were on the scene trying to close off the leak at 10:30 a.m.
The residents affected by the gas leak have been notified and advised to evacuate. Those include residents of Lafayette from Conneaut to Orleans, and on Bourgogne from Lafayette half way to Wintergarden Road.
Bowling Green police and fire divisions are on the scene. Members of the fire division are taking a hand-held gas monitor around the neighborhood to test gas levels, Fawcett said.
Any residents in that area, who are unsure if they should evacuate, may call city police or fire divisions.
