State Senator Theresa Gavarone, R-Bowling Green, today announced that the Ohio Senate passed Senate Bill 58, which would prohibit the state or local government from requiring liability insurance or charging fees for the possession of firearms or knives.
“Gun-grabbing organizations are going across the country to make it tougher for Americans to exercise their Second Amendment rights,” Gavarone said. “That won’t happen in Ohio while I’m here. The bottom line is that our God-given rights, like those in the Bill of Rights, do not and should not come with strings attached to exercise them – particularly financial ones.”
Last year, the San Jose City Council voted to require gun owners to purchase and carry liability insurance as well as pay an annual fee. Senate Bill 58 would protect against such infringements on Ohioans’ constitutional right to bear arms.
