Grand Rapids’ dedicating ‘Sound of Music’ to Sam Macera

“The Sound of Music” comes to the historic Grand Rapids Town Hall stage Friday, July 12, and Saturday, July 13 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, July 14 at 2 p.m. 

Tickets — $12 and $10 for seniors and students —  are available at the door, or by visiting downtown Grand Rapids and Village Orchard at Carson’s Block.

Sam Macera

This year’s production is presented by the Grand Rapids Historical Society in honor of Sam Macera, director, musician, friend. The tradition of Grand Rapids summer musicals can be traced to one man: Sam Macera. 

He spent 25 summers in Grand Rapids directing shows, making friends, and creating memories. There will be a dedication to Macera during Sunday’s show. 

Friday night’s audience will also have ASL (American Sign Language) interpreters from a local worship participating .
