Grand Rapids man calls Speweik’s campaign ‘negative & misleading’

Normally, I keep my thoughts to myself about politics but at a certain point, I feel compelled to speak up.  Here in Wood County, we know there are a few constants – the leaves will change colors in the fall, soybeans are being harvested in October, and Speweik runs a negative and misleading campaign for office. I admit I don’t have the highest expectations for politicians but I would like to think that candidate for judge would hold themselves to a higher standard.

Earlier this year, we saw that Speweik violated President Reagan’s 11th commandment in his race against an honorable man in David Romaker. A few years prior, we saw that in the way Speweik ran against a great judge, Matthew Reger. If violating President Reagan’s 11th commandment isn’t a disqualifier, the misleading and untrue statements Speweik’s campaign has put out should be.

Speweik failed to pay taxes, until he ran for office. We couldn’t do that and surely our judges shouldn’t do that.

Speweik claims he has an undefeated record at trial. I was present in court and personally witnessed Speweik lose at trial, just last year. So, that was a lie.

Speweik posted a piece of campaign literature in my local post office, attached to mail in ballot applications which is a violation of federal law. We couldn’t do that and surely our judges shouldn’t either.

Speweik claims to be an experienced magistrate in Northwood and Walbridge. I googled it and the magistrate is C. Drew Griffith, not Speweik. So, that was a lie.

Speweik sued the taxpayers of Wood County, costing us untold dollars to force an in-person election in the early stages of COVID, well before we knew what we know now. The irony of a guy who doesn’t pay his taxes costing us taxpayers even more money to advance his political interests.  And he wants to be a judge?

We have to hold our judges to a higher standard. I’m voting for the other guy.
