Herbert C. Plotner, 81, of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away November 19, 2016. He was born on February 3, 1935 to Carl and Mary Plotner. He married Sharon Lee Rutledge and she survives in Bowling Green.
Herb was a graduate of Bowling Green High School. He spent three years serving our country in the United States Marine Corps. He was assigned to guarding the commandant and occasionally polishing his boots for inspection. He was an active member of the American Legion in Tontogany.
He worked for the Wood County Garage for 34 years. He did everything from plowing snow to painting bridges until his retirement in 1990. Herb was a shooting instructor and enjoyed teaching boys and girls how to safely use guns. He also enjoyed participating in competitions.
Herb was a member of First Christian Church in Bowling Green. He was also an active member in the Wood County Civil Defense. He and many other dedicated volunteers performed numerous essential emergency services to residents across the county. Herb was particularly proud of getting one lady to the hospital during the blizzard of ’78 just in time to have her baby. He also enjoyed manning the ambulances that were on standby for BGSU Falcon Football and hockey events.
Along with his wife of 47 years, Sharon, Herb is survived by his son Carl Lee Plotner of Portage, Ohio.
Visitation will be held on Monday November 21, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Dunn Funeral Home, located in the Historical District of Bowling Green at 408 West Wooster Street. A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday November 22, 2016 at Union Hill Cemetery beginning at 11:00 a.m. The Wood County Honor Detail will render Military Honors.
