James G. “Jim” Thomson, 77, of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away Friday, January 17, 2020. He was born in Toledo, OH to Jack and Evelyn (Katon) Thomson on August 23, 1942. On November 21, 1964, he married Rae Bullis, and they celebrated 55 years of marriage.
Jim grew up in Grand Rapids, OH and graduated a “Pirate” with the class of 1960. He then attended BGSU. He held many positions at the Mid-Am Bank for 35 years including vice president and retired from Sky Bank in 2003. Jim was involved in many community organizations. He was most closely associated with Grand Rapids Apple Butter Fest, the Grand Rapids Historical Society, and served as treasurer of the Grand Rapids Community Interest Corp. from its founding. Jim had been an elder at First Presbyterian Church Grand in Grand Rapids and was a current member of the BG First Christian Church. Jim also belonged to the Masons, Scottish Rite, and Zenobia Shrine.
Jim enjoyed photography, gardening, vintage cars and traveling with Rae and their close friends Diane and Gary Carpenter. Their travels took them throughout the United States and Canada.
Jim is survived by his wife; a son, Steven James and Amy Thomson of Grand Rapids, OH and their daughters, Staci and Courtney; and a daughter, Ann Marie and Rob Slane of London, OH and their daughter, Kate. Jim has a brother John of Grand Rapids, and was preceded in death by his sister Kathy in July 2019. Also surviving are brothers-in-law Lee Gaines of BG and Don (Gloria) Bullis of New Mexico. He was loved by four nieces: Jodi, Beth, Jaci, and Rhonda.
He donated his body to the University of Toledo Medical College in the hope that this gift would help others—especially those with Parkinson’s.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, January 31, 2020 at Noon in the First Christian Church, 875 Haskins Road Bowling Green, Ohio. Rev. Matt Every will officiate. Visitation will be held on Friday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the service at Noon. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Dunn Funeral Home in Bowling Green.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Parkinson’s Foundation, First Christian Church or Dare to Dream in care of Wood Haven.
