“Well Done, My Good and Faithful Servant.”
Jim Abbott passed away on May 24, 2025, at Piedmont Crossing, Thomasville. Jim was born to the late RJ and Roma Abbott and grew up in Pemberville, Ohio.
He played the trombone in both the High School and college bands. He graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Music Education. He met the love of his life, Jodie, shortly after, and they were married for 43 years. Jim returned to school and received an associate’s degree in respiratory therapy. Jim and Jodie relocated to Winston-Salem in 1989, where Jim worked as a respiratory therapist for 24 years at Baptist Hospital.
Jim was a man of great Christian faith, and reflected it with his kind, caring spirit. He loved God, family, and his church family, where he served as an elder for many years. Jim’s other love was traveling; he was always planning his next adventure! He and Jodie went on many trips and cruises over the years.
In 2013, Jim had the devastating news of having a brain tumor. He defied all the doctor’s expectations and lived another 12 years. All the time, never wavering in his faith in God, and continued to be a shining light to all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Jodie, son Jeremy (Beth), grandchildren Ryan, Toby, and Lucy, sisters Sue Steck and Carol Kidd, brother Bill (Pam) Abbott, and a host of nieces and nephews.
A service honoring Jim’s life will be held Saturday, May 31st, 2025, at 4 PM at First Alliance Church in Lexington, North Carolina, with Pastor Paul Titus officiating. Committal will be held at Parklawn Memorial Gardens on Monday, June 2nd, 2025 at 10 AM.
