A Juneteenth celebration will be held Saturday, June, 17, from 2 to 8 p.m., in the Wooster Green, Bowling Green.
There will be live music, games and food, hosted by BRAVE (Black Rights, Activism, Visibility, and Equity.)
Live performances are planned by TRIBE African Dance Team, Jay Davis, De’Aris, Nate Hicks, The Cofields, Kim Joyce, L.I.V.E., Mike Williams on Sax (BGSU Alumni) and N’Shai Iman (BGSU Alumni).
Food vendors at the event will include Yummy Treats (ice cream), Fat Boyz by Al & Zoe (barbecue), and Island Soul (Caribbean).
There will also be activities for all ages, including bouncy houses, a photo booth, and art exhibit.
Vendors scheduled at the Juneteenth event include: Sweet Experience, Tresa’s Trinkets and Treasures, Crown Family Brand, BLACKIS LLC, Divine Child, Organic Glisten, Pyoor Candles, Faith is Enough, Kay Flowerz, Healthy Bae Brand, Kingdom Heir, Murreys Movers, Berries by Mani, Prophetic Achievers/Kings, Beyond Blends, Dollface Cee Lashes, and 10-year run clothing.
The mission of BRAVE’s annual Juneteenth celebration is to provide a family-friendly environment that focuses on the celebration of Black talent, uplifting Black business, and inspiring Black joy through music, food, fun, art and family activities to commemorate the national Juneteenth holiday.
While the Emancipation Proclamation declared enslaved people in Confederate territories free as of Jan. 1, 1863, it was two and a half years before many were actually freed.
Juneteenth marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, in 1865 to ensure that all enslaved people be freed.
