Lavonne Eckert

Lavonne Eckert, 98, of Bowling Green and formerly of Findlay, Ohio passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at The Willows in Bowling Green.

Lavonne was born at home on the family farm in Rudolph, Ohio on March 29, 1927 to H. Dewey and Josephine (Poland) Garber. She graduated from Liberty High School and married Burton M. Eckert on September 23, 1945. He preceded her in death on September 17, 1993.

Lavonne grew up working alongside her father on the family farm, milking cows and feeding livestock. She developed a lifelong love of animals, especially dogs and cats. She later began a career in banking, spending more than 25 years in the field and retiring from Hancock Savings and Loan (formerly Diamond Savings and Loan).

She was a longtime active member of First Christian Church in Findlay, where she enjoyed weekly services, Bible studies, prayer groups, and crafting for the annual bazaars. Lavonne also served as treasurer for the Women’s Fellowship for many years and often contributed homemade dishes for church events and family gatherings. She had a lifelong passion for music; playing the piano and organ.

She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Rawson Chapter 550, where she held multiple officer positions and served as pianist/organist for over 40 years. Lavonne served as Worthy Grand Matron in 1973 and was honored to be Deputy Grand Matron for Ohio District 26 in 1977. She was also an active member of the Social Order of the Beauceant.

Lavonne lived a life of quiet strength, service, and grace. She was always a “lady”, kind, and soft-spoken. Following Burton’s passing she remained independent and never wanted to ” bother anyone .” At age 94, she moved into assisted living, later to skilled care.

She was preceded in death by her son, Paul M. Eckert; her sister, Noladean “Nin” Bunton; and great-grandson, Macsen Eckert. Surviving are her daughter-in-law, Rita Eckert of Bowling Green; grandchildren: Randy Eckert, Joseph Eckert, and Angela (Joseph) Shultz; and great-grandchildren: Alexis Eckert, Josie, Ella, and Eli Shultz.

Lavonne will be remembered for her kindness, dedication to others, and as a cherished grandmother.
