Layne Layton-Vanherwaarden, 81, of Bowling Green, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. She was born on March 28, 1944, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Ralph and Pearl (McCaslin) Layton.
Layne was a graduate of Richland Township High School, class of 1962, and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in journalism from Penn State University.
After college, Layne followed her passion for writing to New York City, where she began her career as a copywriter in the advertising industry. Her creative talents shone through in the promotional work she crafted for businesses across the city.
Outside of work, she found joy in life’s quiet pleasures, long walks, reading and frequent visits to the Metropolitan Opera. A lifelong cat lover, she found companionship and comfort in the pets she cherished over the years.
Layne will be deeply missed by her friends, family and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
She is survived by her brother Bob Layton of Portland, Oregon, and sister Janice Dunlap of Dayton, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son Justin Vanherwaarden.
A memorial gathering for Layne will be announced at a later date.
