Library has packed summer schedule of activities for kids & families

Library patrons gather for a summer reading program event on Wooster Green.

The Wood County District Public Library has numerous activities for children and families this summer.

Outdoor Family Playtimes

Outdoor Family Playtimes will be every Thursday in June and July from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Play games, enjoy activities with a different community partner each week, dance and listen to music at each Playtime.

Playtimes and community partners include:

  • June 6 – WBGU-PBS
  • June 13 – Bowling Green Parks & Recreation
  • June 20 – Wood County Family and Children First Council, and Wood County Health Department
  • June 27 – Reach Out and Read
  • July 11 – Wood County Board of Developmental Disabilities Early Intervention, and Help Me Grow
  • July 25 – Community Learning Center

The City of Bowling Green will also hold Food Truck Thursdays at Wooster Green from 11:00 a.m.

to 1 p.m.

Cardboard Construction Challenges

Cardboard Construction Challenges will be held on Thursdays, June 13, June 27, July 11 and July 25 at 2 p.m.

Families can build using WCDPL’s safe and versatile Makedo cardboard tools to complete different  challenges.

Challenges include:

  • June 13 – Plane Challenge
  • June 27 – Train Challenge
  • July 11 – Boat Challenge
  • July 25 – Rocket Challenge

Choose Your Own Adventure Writing Team

Writers and creative minds ages 11 and older are invited to join the library’s collaborative Choose Your Own Adventure Writing Team.

This eight-week program will take place on Monday, beginning June 3 through July 22, at 2 p.m. in the Bowling Green Library Children’s Place.

Over the course of eight weeks, participants will collaborate to create a reading-themed Choose Your Own Adventure story which will be made available to the public at the end of the summer.

Students do not need to be able to attend all eight weeks to participate. No registration is required.

The Wood County District Public Library will host the Lego Cup Challenge.

The Lego Cup

Kids can enjoy time constructing and learning about STEAM with the Lego Cup Challenge on most Saturdays, June through July, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Drop by the Bowling Green Library Children’s Place during these days to take part in the challenge.

Participants will be given a cup of Legos and an items or structure to build using as many of the Legos in their cup as possible. After building, creations will be put on display for library patrons to see.

Monday movies

During the Summer Reading Program: Adventure Begins at Your Library the library will screen adventure movies featuring your favorite characters. Every Monday in June and July, the library will be showing a movie at 10:30 a.m. at the Bowling Green Library.
