From BOWLING GREEN ARTS COUNCIL
On Friday, Nov. 14, at 8 p.m., Dr. Sandra Coursey (Keytress) will present “Sleeping Beauties,” a solo piano recital highlighting rarely-performed romantic-era works by women composers. The concert will take place at Simpson Garden Park Banquet Hall, 1291 Conneaut Ave., Bowling Green, as part of the Bowling Green Arts Council’s “Stealing Your Heart” concert series. The event is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m.
“Piano music by women has always been there, but history hasn’t given it much attention,” said Coursey. “‘Sleeping Beauties’ is about sharing the voices of these composers with the public.”
Program highlights include piano works from the late 19th and early 20th centuries by composers such as Louise Farrenc, Mélanie Bonis, Adele aus der Ohe, and more. Beyond the performance, Coursey will share stories of the lives and legacies of these composers.
Coursey is a pianist and educator based in Bowling Green. A BGSU alumna (DMA, MM), she teaches private piano, performs, and researches underrepresented music by women. For more, visit Keytress.com.
