Local experts to talk about and answer questions about nation’s immigration system

Welcome BG will be hosting an event open to anyone curious about the nation’s immigration system. There will be a panel discussion for a comprehensive overview by local experts followed by an audience Q&A session.

The event will be held Tuesday, June 17, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., in the Toledo Lucas County Public Library, 325 N. Michigan St., Toledo.

Are you interested in learning more about the U.S. immigration system? Have your questions answered by area experts and receive a comprehensive overview of the U.S. immigration system — from a look at the pathways to a green card and U.S. citizenship, how our immigration court and detention and deportation systems work, to understanding common legal challenges faced by immigrants.

Meet the panelists and join the conversation on current topics in immigration with:

  • Eugenio Mollo Jr., clinical assistant professor of law and director of the Immigrant Justice Clinic at the University of Toledo College of Law.
  • Dr. Kefa Otiso, professor of geography at BGSU, founding member of the New African Immigrant Commission of Ohio; Welcome BG Steering Committee member.
  • Mechelle Zarou, chief people and culture officer and deputy general counsel at the Sisters of St. Francis.

The event will be moderated by Janelle Metzger, executive director at Water for Ishmael.

This event is a part of the celebration for Immigrant Heritage Month and World Refugee Day; and is in partnership with Welcome TLC, Welcome Bowling Green, the Toledo Lucas County Public Library, and the Multifaith Council of Northwest Ohio.
