From WOOD COUNTY GREEN PARTY
The Wood County Green Party and the local chapter of the 50501 organization are teaming with the national group Women’s March in a “Free America Walk Out” on Tuesday, Jan. 20, to mark the one-year anniversary of President Trump’s inauguration.
There are over 1,100 events planned around the country, with tens of thousands of people already pledged to participate.
The event in Bowling Green will consist of two parts. First, there will be a protest from 4 – 5 p.m. at the corner of Main and Wooster Streets. There will be chanting and singing. Demonstrators will be protesting a variety of issues from the administration’s environmental policies to the continued genocide in Gaza and ICE.
At 5 p.m., participants will march to the Trinity United Methodist Church at 200 N. Summit St. There, they will listen to four speakers. Sandra DeSteno will discuss the impact of budget cuts on social services. Joe DeMare will discuss the administration’s environmental impacts. Kristie Foell will describe how Trump’s policies have affected America’s standing in the world community. Lucia Meyers of La Conexion will also discuss how the Latino organization has been affected.
DeMare, co-chair of the Wood County Green Party stated, “It’s essential that we mark this anniversary with strong civil actions showing that the vast majority of Americans do not support Trump or his policies. He has done so many terrible things that it would take a week just to list them, but we need to look at some of the worst decisions. It will be up to us to change them.”
Afterwards, there will be a town hall style discussion of next steps to take.
